01
Gasoil
Gasoil is quoted and reviewed as EN 590 with the edition stated. The desk assesses against EN 590:2013+A1:2017.
- The full property table for that edition, with the limit and the referenced EN ISO test method on every line. The lines that decide acceptance: sulphur, 10 mg/kg maximum; cetane number and cetane index; density at 15 °C; flash point; distillation, recovery at 250 °C and 350 °C and the 95 per cent recovery temperature; cold filter plugging point; water content, total contamination, ash, carbon residue, copper strip corrosion and oxidation stability; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; lubricity; fatty acid methyl ester content.
- The climate grade for the delivery month and the market. The cold filter plugging point limit follows from it, so the grade is stated, not assumed.
- The FAME content stated, including none.
- The inspector’s certificate at loading where the parcel warrants an inspection, reported line by line against that table by the referenced methods. Where one is issued, payment is made against that certificate.
02
Jet A-1
- Jet A-1 to ASTM D1655 or DEF STAN 91-091, or the AFQRJOS check list, with the standard named in the offer.
- The certificate of quality for the batch in the tank the cargo loads from. After any transfer between tanks or into a pipeline system the product is re-certified, and the new certificate is the one presented.
- Additives declared by name and dose.
- Reported on the certificate: thermal oxidation stability by JFTOT, electrical conductivity with the additive stated, freezing point and flash point, and with them density at 15 °C, distillation, total aromatics, sulphur and mercaptan sulphur, existent gum, water reaction and microseparometer rating.
03
D6 fuel oil
D6 is a trade term, not a standard. The offer names the standard: No. 6 to ASTM D396, or RMG 380 to ISO 8217 for a cargo in ARA.
- The certificate of quality for the batch in the tank the cargo loads from, reported line by line by the referenced methods. The lines that decide acceptance: kinematic viscosity at 50 °C; sulphur; density at 15 °C; flash point; water; ash; vanadium; total sediment, aged or potential as the grade requires; pour point.
- The grade named in full. RMG 380 and No. 6 are not interchangeable on the certificate: the limits and the methods differ, so the offer states which one the cargo is certified against.
- Re-certification after any transfer between tanks or into a barge, as for jet. The new certificate is the one presented.
- Sample retention agreed in the contract: sealed samples from the loading, held by the inspector and by both parties for the retention period.
04
Not accepted
- A product name with a sulphur figure and nothing else. “EN590 10 ppm” names one limit; the inspector cannot test against it and the bank cannot pay against it.
- “D6” on its own. It is a trade term; without No. 6 to ASTM D396 or RMG 380 to ISO 8217 and the certificate, there is nothing to test or pay against. “Virgin fuel oil” is not a grade either.
- A table from a different edition, or another market’s grade.
- A refinery certificate for a batch that has since moved.
- The seller’s own analysis as final.
05
At first contact
- The standard and the edition, in full.
- The climate grade for the delivery period and the market.
- Confirmation that the full property table or batch certificate is available.
- The proposed inspector at loading, if already agreed.
Do not send the property table, certificate or additive declaration through the public form. Those documents move through the controlled counterparty stage after the initial commercial screen.
